The collective is dedicated to the upkeep and preservation of one of the most innovative urban parks in the United States. The High Line is part of a refurbished freight train overpass that was built in the 1930s. The structure now serves as an elevated garden, walkway and public park all in one. Together with the rest of Friends of the High Line, Von Furstenberg champions the survival of this city treasure and others like it. To date, the group is responsible for up to 70 percent of the High Line’s yearly operating costs.
